Playing on the same court where her team’s 2013 14 season came to an end, Borchers lifted Banks to a dramatic 30 29 victory at Philomath by knocking down a game winning three pointer with two seconds to play. It’s the first buzzer beater of Brandon Begley’s coaching career.Trent Callan, Lincoln boys basketball: The Cardinals senior guard led the team in scoring with 26 points in a win over Roosevelt and 15 in a win over Franklin, and he scored 14 points in Lincoln’s win over Jefferson.TJ Cavender, Hillsboro wrestling: The Spartans senior recorded his 100th career win while capturing the 195 pound title at the Bretthauer Hilhi Invitational last weekend at Hillsboro High School. Cavender opened with a 16 second pin over Barlow’s Cole Mason in the first round. Cavender then pinned Glencoe’s Kegan Watters in 3:12 in the quarterfinals. Cavender capped his memorable run with a 4 3 win over Lebanon’s Jesse Wynn in the semifinals and a 3 1 win over McMinnville’s Brian Barnes in the final. Cavender was one of 12 Hillsboro wrestlers to reach the championship semifinals of the nine team invitational.Who should be honored as The Oregonian’s high school athlete of the week for Jan. 5 11?Jansen Edmiston, Hermiston girls basketball: Jansen drilled 10 three pointers in the Bulldogs’ 85 56 win over Kennewick (Wash.). Hermiston made 17 long range shots as a team. Edmiston also scored a team high 12 points in a 47 30 win over La Grande. During the Bulldogs’ Les Schwab bracket win at the Nike Interstate Shootout, Edmiston averaged 14 points per game.Byron Greenlee, Liberty boys basketball: The senior post player scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench to help the Falcons beat La Salle in a thrilling 64 60 double overtime win Friday at Liberty High School. Greenlee scored a combined 10 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help Liberty improve to 3 1 in the Northwest Oregon Conference.Joel Johnson, Tigard boys basketball: The senior forward had 18 points and five blocked shots in a 64 29 win over Beaverton, then led the Tigers with 11 points in a 48 43 win over Tualatin.Alia Parsons, Silverton girls basketball: The junior made five three pointers and scored 16 points in a 49 47 win over Marist and made seven three pointers and scored 28 points in a 53 48 loss to St. Mary Academy.Noah Spencer, Westview wrestling: The heavyweight, who took second at the district tournament last year, scored a fall in the final match of a dual to give Westview a team victory for the second time this season. With his team down 36 30, Spencer pinned Sunset Nick Wiley in 3 minutes, 17 seconds to knot the match at 36. The Wildcats won the dual via tiebreaker because they exceeded Sunset in six point victories. Spencer achieved the same feat on Dec. 18 during Westview first Metro League dual against Beaverton, earning a 9 3 decision over Anibal Gonzalez Romero to tie the match and give the Wildcats the win.Taycee Wedin, La Salle girls basketball: The 5 foot 8 freshman guard made 10 three pointers as the top ranked Falcons beat Hillsboro 54 49 and Liberty 67 38. She went 7 for 10 from three point range and scored 25 points against Hillsboro and went 3 for 8 from deep and scored 15 points against Liberty. For the season, she is shooting 38.9 percent on three pointers and is averaging a team high 19.4 points.
